Notable original tenants included J.C. Penney and Walgreens, and Cermak Plaza served as the area's main shopping center until the late 1970s, when the North Riverside Park Mall opened. The area even appears on the maps as South Oak Park, but it is really part of the subdivision of Oak Park. Also present in this city is the sand and gravel that once made up Lake Chicago.
Baldwin encouraged people to move to LaVergne and sold the Burlington and Quincy railroads in 1862 to encourage them. Son Svengoolie, played by TV star Rich Koz, was Grand Marshal of the Houby Day Parade in 2011. His presence caused a stir when the Chicago Sun-Times attacked the parade organizers for spending $1,000 on a photo of him walking past the huge parade crowd. Actor Martin Sheen has been a Grand Marshal at the Hou-by-Day parade since 2014.
There were only two paths covered by the two settlements, and the most important one was past the Portage in Chicago. Today, the route is known as Oak Park Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue, but two major routes crossed what is now Berwyn.
The tornado passed through Berwyn and crossed the Governor Highway and the central Illinois stretch south of the Sauk Trail. The tornado weakened slightly as it approached the city of Oak Park and then the city of Chicago on the eastern side of Illinois.
The last signs of tree damage were found in the southern part of what is now Berwyn and in the northern part south of Sauk Trail. John Kelly was involved in the development of the Piper Andrews, which was developed in southern parts of Present-Day Berwen, while he was developing the city's first public school system, the Piper-Andrews School of Education.
Berwyn is home to the sculpture "Spindle," created by artist Dustin Shuler and located in the Cermak Plaza shopping mall. In 2012, it was proposed that the top two cars should be included in the spindle conversion, but they were put in storage.

The Berwyn Historical Society is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote architectural and historical resources in Berwyn through advocacy and education. The Berwen Route 66 Museum is the only museum of its kind in Illinois and one of the few in the country with its own museum.
The two theme parks maintain municipal leisure facilities and organize leagues and programs for youth, adults and seniors. Berwyn North School District 98 consists of two elementary schools and two middle schools in neighboring Oak Park. Parish students who wish to move to the parish can attend a number of co-educational schools, such as the Catholic School of St. Joseph, St. Patrick's Elementary School and St. Paul's Middle School.
Since 1990, the city has hosted the Vintage Car Fair every year in early September, and this year the Houby's Day Festival is taking place for the 49th time. The event will take place on Saturday, September 10, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Ogden Avenue, which is part of historic Route 66 in Berwyn. This year, the parade is scheduled to take place at 7: 30 a.m., with a special performance by the Chicago Fire Department. The BNSF line is operated by Metra and is served by a number of suburban rail lines, as well as the Berrien County Line and the North Shore Line, all of which serve the City of Berwin and its neighboring communities.
